++ 1. Welcome to the Dispatch ++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mid-way through a busy theme on women's rights (many members are participating!)
we find ourselves avidly preparing for our next theme - the Millennium Development
Goals. Be sure to check it out next month when the theme goes live on our site.
And of course, much more is going on behind the scenes. In addition to our ongoing
side projects, our staff is busily engaging youth on the ground through art contests,
membership drives, and open forums on women's rights and HIV/AIDS! Read on to learn
how you too can become involved!
We are also excited to announce that starting in April, the Dispatch will be
available in HTML format, full of colours and images, and in the future, information
personalized to your interests!
Enjoy reading the latest news at TakingITGlobal, and as always we appreciate your
comments.
In Friendship,
The TakingITGlobal Team

++ 2. Theme on Women's Rights: Give Us Your Feedback ++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Last month we launched our latest theme on Women's Rights and so far
the topic has generated quite a bit of discussion in our discussion boards and
attracted many written and artistic submissions. We would love to know what
you think about our theme page in particular. Does the content speak to you?
Is it relevant to your experience? Do you feel like you have learned anything?
Send your comments to: themes@takingitglobal.org
If you haven't seen the theme page yet, please check it out and let us know
what you think! Go to: http://takingitglobal.org/themes/women
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
++ 3. Featured Members ++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you inspired, informed or involved? TIG Featured Members are! Becoming
a featured member is a great way to share your views on global issues. Our
members are important to our success and therefore it is vital for us to
constantly feature our different members. To become a Featured Member you must
submit a picture of yourself, be a young person between the ages of 13 to 30,
and be active on our site. The application is very easy to fill out with only
three questions about your involvement, your feelings about TIG and what you
would like to change within your country If the application is incomplete in
any way, we'll let you know and you can reapply - it's that easy! Go to:
http://takingitglobal.org/community/featured
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
++ 4. Student Voices - What do you want teachers to know about how you learn? (Survey) ++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
YOU COULD WIN A TRIP TO PHILADELPHIA!
Are you a student? Would you like to share your ideas about how technology
could enhance your education? Do you want a chance to tell educators from
around the world what works in education and what doesn't?
TakingITGlobal is working with the International Society for Technology in
Education to bring student voices to NECC 2005 - the National Educational
Computing Conference, in Philadelphia, PA, USA. The invitation is open to
any student -- high school, college or university. If you are willing to
share your visions for the future of education, good and bad learning experiences,
and your ideas for integrating technology into the process of learning over
the course of five weeks this spring, join us!
The process will involve online discussions and photo blogging -- so all you
need is access to a computer and a camera, and some ideas. The process will
run from mid-March to mid-April, and selected participants will be contacted
very shortly, so keep an eye on your email! At the end of the process we will
be inviting four students to join TakingITGlobal staff in Philadelphia for a
chance to attend the conference and speak at a special event dedicated to student
voices.
To participate, please apply at http://surveys.takingitglobal.org/survey.html?SurveyID=20
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
++ 5. Panorama: Featured Submissions on Women's Rights ++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
"We don't turn on the TV in the day time" she was told. As the excitement
turned to frustration and anger, she asked the manager "Do you know what day
it is today? Do you know what is happening in Kenya and in the world today? Do
you know Wangari Maathai?" After getting an aye only to the latter question,
she threatened the manager that if he knew what was good for him, he would turn
on the TV. Seeing the no nonsense look on her face, he complied..."
The powerfully narrated, "The Nobel Prize Belongs to Us" by Wanjiru Mukoma
is a meaningful article about the day when Kenyan environmental activist Wangari
Maathai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Submissions like Wangari's are flowing
in to Panorama's latest issue on women's rights. Don't miss the poem "Woman, This
is Your Day" by Matilda who writes about celebrating International Women's Day
with pride! More writings from Becky Lorraine, Sarah Nasser, and Oluyemisi Agboola
will keep you thinking about the variety of perspectives on women's rights. We are
still accepting articles throughout the month of March to be featured in the women's
issue - so send yours on today! Visit: http://www.takingitglobal.org/panorama

++ 6. Global Gallery: Sneak Peek at "To Be a Woman" ++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
As the Women's Rights Global Gallery contest enters its second month, it is
wonderful to see the diversity of perspective, thought and feeling reflected in
the 30 images gathered so far. Contributions are from members of all sexes from
all over the world. Each piece is unique in its own way, at times portraying the
challenges and struggles of women throughout time and place, while others show
the grand achievements that have enriched societies, brought emancipatory human
growth, and the recognition of individuality. Other images mirror a personal story
or sensation, the emotional side of being a woman, or the intimate meaning of
being a person. Here are a few randomly chosen images that reflect such diversity,
uniqueness and personality:
